Here is the "Abdominable Snowman" ready to dig out the driveway with his honking snowblower! Not as cold today, all the way up to 12 degrees but was -6 yesterday. Weather scientists say a polar vortex swept down over the central and eastern US.

My family gathered at our house on New Year's day. I made chili, salads and snacks and we had fun looking at old photos, and playing the annual New Years Day Scrabble games.

The sun is shining brightly through the window, but it is only -6 degrees outside at noon!

It's a blizzard today! A Barred owl was here early this morning sitting quietly in our backyard tree; and briefly flew onto the feeder close to the window. We've filled the feeders and put out the heated bird bath for water; and there are now juncos, chickadees, house finches, goldfinches, tufted titmice, downy and red-bellied woodpeckers, cardinals, house sparrows, mourning doves, white breasted nuthatches chowing down.
Glad that we are inside looking out, split pea soup is in the crockpot. The Christmas tree and decorations are down and put away-the wreath comes in tomorrow which is Twelfth Night.
