Birthday Week

My birthday week started on Sunday with the best gift of all, a sweet baby! Addison Marie, my first great grandchild, was born at 8:44 Sun. morning. I got to hold her later that day at about 5: 30. Wow have times changed. Went to the hospital expecting to look through the glass window into the nursery. But there she was in Rachel's room being held by numerous family members. So sweet!!
On Tuesday, my actual birthday, I drove over to Rochester  on the Mt. Auburn blacktop. A perfect first full day of fall. The sky so blue, in the 70's, sunny, the corn harvest going-the grain trucks were burning uyp the roads.
First stop was the quilt shop! Bought a few pieces of fabric and the newest Edyta Sitar book.

Then down the street to the chocolate shop for delectable treats
On the way home, I turned off and drove up the mound and toured the town of Mt. Auburn. I'd passed by many times and decided today was the day to go see it. What views some of the  homes have! Who says Illinois is nothing but flat prairie.
T gave me two CDs I've been wanting.
My asters are blooming. The neighbor gave the plant to me in the spring when they got rid of their flower bed.
T took me to supper at Donnie's,

May into June

My Irises in bloom.

When we moved to this house twelve years ago, there were some irises in the back yard under the trees that never bloomed (too shady?). Two years ago I transplanted them to the front in a mostly sunny spot and they are now blooming like crazy.

Goldfish Pond

A church member who lives in the woods, invited us all for a lunch on her patio by her goldfish pond, and a walk through her woods on a Sunday in May.

I went to a quilt retreat by LLQA last week and it was lovely! Sewing all day and half the night, with breaks for walks, eating and shopping. On a morning walk,I crossed the bridge over this clear, wide, shallow creek and got a photo of this deer and its reflection in the water. I also made some progress on three of my quilt "works in progress".

May 16, 2014

Went for an evening walk and saw that the pair of mallards have set up housekeeping at their usual spot in a small pond near the trail. Here is "Donald" and "Daisy" was near by. (I also got my first mosquito bite of the season-dang those things!)
